Chocolate Loaf with Prunes and Choc Chips

Ready to eat

Yes, I’ve been baking again.  I couldn’t help myself!  Chocolate cake is too easy and tasty to resist.

I have made this loaf cake before and it went down very well with some friends, but unfortunately I didn’t write down what I did.  So this time I kept track of how much of everything I put in so everyone can bake their own!

It is yummy eaten warm, or the next day when the flavour of the prunes has mellowed a little.

Mmm, melted chocolate...

Mmm, melted chocolate…

  • 84g caster sugar
  • 84g dark brown sugar
  • 110g butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 130g self raising flour
  • 40g cocoa powder
  • 4tbsp milk
  • Large handful of ready to eat prunes, chopped
  • 40g dark chocolate cut into chunks, or choc chips of your choice.

Preheat the oven to 180°C.  Then grease and line a 2lb loaf tin.  Cream together the butter and sugars, then add in the eggs, flour, cocoa powder, and milk.  Mix until smooth.  Add more milk if it is too stiff.  Stir in the prunes and then pour into the prepared tin.  Sprinkle the chocolate chunks on top and bake for around 40mins, or until a skewer comes out clean (don’t be fooled by melted chocolate from the chocolate chunks).  If it need longer, you may need to cover it to  stop it from burning the sides and top.

Cool in the tin for 10 minutes before turning out (careful of the melted choc on top!) onto a wire rack.  Enjoy it with a lovely cup of tea! :)
